When the temperature drops down you want to make sure your HVAC System is working properly. To make sure your HVAC System will bring some warmth into your home we have 5 tips to get the most out of your HVAC System.

1. Change your air filters at least every 3 months.

Changing the air filters in your HVAC system is one of the most important things to do on a regular base. While they should be changed at least every 3 months, we advice to change the air filters for your HVAC system every month. By doing this you will keep the highest air quality as possible in your home. Do you have pets or a lot of dust in your home for another reason? You might want to change the air filters more often.

2. Check the batteries of your thermostat.

What you don’t want, especially not during the cold days is not being able to set the right temperature on your thermostat. By checking the batteries of your thermostat on a regular base you will be able to keep the preferred temperature in your home, all day long.

3. Test all Carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.

Even while you are changing the air filters of your HVAC System on a regular base, there can always go something wrong. You can prevent you and your family from a lot of trouble by checking your carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detector on a regular base. Are the detectors on the right spots? Are the batteries still good? It will take you a couple minutes while it can save your life in case of a fire or carbon monoxide poisoning.

4. Clear snow from outdoor furnaces, heaters & vents.

Even though your outdoor heating systems are made for outdoor use, the extreme winters of Canada can harm your products. Keep your furnaces, heaters, and outdoor vents clean and snow-free to extend the lifetime of your products.

5. Check your HVAC Systems on any leaks or strange noises.

One final step to take just before the winter starts. Turn your HVAC System on and listen for 30 – 60 minutes. Do you hear strange noises or do you see water dripping? Now is the time to figure out the problems with your HVAC System and call in a professional if necessary. Good luck!
